Pedro Good, Offense Not, Mets Lose
Pedro Martinez had a rocky start to his night, giving up two homeruns to the first three batters he faced to start the game, but to his credit settled in nicely and pitched a very good game.
The Mets offense now revolves around Daniel Murphy. Murphy started the scoring in the first inning with a one out triple. He then scored on a David Wright groundout. Later in the game Murphy hit an RBI single scoring David Wright to tie the game.
With the game tied in the 7th Pedro Martinez allowed a leadoff double to start the inning. After a sac bunt by the pitcher and a left handed batter due up, Martinez came out of the game in favor of Pedro Feliciano. It looked as Feliciano was going to get out of the inning without giving up the lead but a David Wright error cost the Mets the run, and eventually the game.
After the Mets offense was shutdown in the bottom of the 7th, Eddie Kunz came on to pitch the 8th with the Mets down 3-2. Kunz looked good, throwing anywhere from 93-98 with his sinker, but left a fastball up to Chase Headley, which lead to the first homerun Kunz had given up in over three years.
But, that shouldn't be the story tonight, as the Mets dropped another game to a horrible team. The Mets have now lost 5 out of 6 games to the Padres this season and have lost 5 out of 6 games overall. The fact remains that this team CANNOT hit with runners in scoring position. During the game SNY showed the Mets run differential throughout the game. In innings 1-3 the Mets have a run differential of +78. In innings 7-9 the Mets have a run differential of -42. Sorry, but a team like that does not deserve to make the playoffs.
