Streak Over
It couldn't last forever, but, man, I didn't want it to end like that.
Last night the Mets lost to the Reds by the score of 5-2. John Maine got the start for the Mets last night, but once again, a high pitch count forced him out of the game early, this time before he could finish 5 innings.
They had their chances offensively against Bronson Arroyo, but a lot of early swinging in the count allowed Arroyo to pitch deep in the game.
My Thoughts:
Yes, the Mets had a rested bullpen, but this is the second night in a row that a starter did not complete 5 innings. They were so good during the 10 game stretch, but it's only July, and we know what happens in September when you overuse a bullpen in the dog days. As for John Maine, I'm concerned. He's only pitched 7 innings ONCE this year, it seems like this guy can never get into a rhythm, whether it be foul balls or walks, his pitch count runs high early.
