Pablo Martinez Passes Away

Sad news tonight as Pedro Martinez learned during today's game that his father had passed away. The elder Martinez had been battling brain cancer for over a year and reports over the past few months had been that his condition worsened.

Because of the death of his father, Pedro will not be making his scheduled start on Saturday. The Mets could put Pedro on the bereavement list, or they could opt to put him on the disabled list as Pedro would be retroactive to July 12th.
